A NOTE FROM COACH

“I think I’ve always known I wanted to coach, but I didn’t realize it early on. I love the process of training for a personal or team goal, and I found that pushing one’s own limits is second only to helping a teammate reach new levels of achievement and success. My love of that process was indistinguishable from playing football while I was in high school and college. I thought my love for the game was centered around suiting up and competing, and, as such, I always thought that I would play professional football. I know that sounds far-fetched, but, as a long snapper, my chances were actually better than most.

My life-long dream of playing in the NFL was fulfilled when I was picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in August 2011. After having the opportunity to be a professional football player for seven whole days, I was cut from the Bucs organization and returned home lost and confused. I had played football for seventeen years and didn’t really feel that I knew how to do anything else. I still loved the game, but coaching didn’t seem like a real possibility. I had no idea where to start. Fresh out of college with no job history or useful trade skills, I decided to put my business degree to good use and joined the Gold’s Gym family, becoming the fitness manager at a local gym. Losing football, being thrust into the real world, and devastating personal crisis all in the span of less than 10 months put me in a really bad place mentally and left me even more lost and confused.

I knew my only chance of finding my way again was to get back to the game. Football is home for me. I understand the rules of this world, and I was beginning to understand that football is where I needed to be. I walked into the football weight room at UAB without invitation, somehow convinced the new Head Strength Coach Dwayne Chandler to sit down and talk with me, and started my coaching career a few short weeks later. The rest is history.”

PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY

Coach Feld started his collegiate coaching career at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2012. Despite lacking collegiate coaching experience and technically being a paid intern, Coach Feld was the Head Strength Coach for Women’s Basketball and one of “The Five” countable strength coaches for the Blazers’ Football team under then Head Strength Coach Dwayne Chandler. Feld was with the Blazers for two seasons.

Coach Feld left the Blazers to become a volunteer strength and conditioning intern for then Head Strength Coach Scott Cochran and the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team. He spent one season with the Tide during which time he worked with multiple other sports, including Baseball, Crew, Soccer, and Women’s Basketball, establishing working relationships with several soon-to-be head strength coaches, including Mark Hocke, who would later go on to hire Feld at the University of Georgia.

After spending nearly a year with the Tide, Coach Feld became the first ever full-time strength and conditioning coach for the University of North Alabama Lions. As Director of Strength and Conditioning at UNA, Feld assumed responsibility for the development of all thirteen sports in the Lion’s athletic department. During his time with the Lions, Coach Feld built the strength and conditioning department from the ground up, establishing budgets, academic internships, health and safety protocols, and policy regarding participation in strength & conditioning activities.

His time with the Lions was short-lived and as the following off-season rolled around, Coach Feld accepted the position of Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning for the University of Georgia Bulldogs under Director of Strength and Conditioning Mark Hocke and Head Football Coach Mark Richt. After his first year with the Dawgs and in the wake of a major coaching change, Coach Feld was fortunate enough to remain on staff at Georgia under new Head Coach Kirby Smart and new Director of Strength and Conditioning Scott Sinclair. Coach Feld spent three seasons at Georgia as Assistant Director and also served as internship coordinator for the strength & conditioning department. In his final season with the Dawgs, Coach Feld was a part of the 2017 SEC Championship team. The 2017 season culminated with Georgia’s appearance in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship game.

Coach Feld accepted the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator position for the University of Oregon Ducks the night before the 2018 National Championship game, which gave him the rare opportunity to say goodbye to the players and his colleagues face to face. The game was played on a Monday, and by Wednesday, Coach Feld was 2,500 miles away and had begun the task of rebuilding a program with Head Football Coach Mario Cristobal in Eugene, Oregon.

In just two seasons at Oregon, Coach Feld was able to help Coach Cristobal return the Fighting Ducks to their rightful place of prominence on the West Coast. For two years they consistently put the toughest team on the field, eventually winning the 2019 PAC-12 Championship and capping off the season with the 2020 Rose Bowl Championship. Coach Feld is in his third season with the Ducks and is preparing for another championship run. He is proud to help put the “mighty” back in Mighty Oregon.
